Your health and safety is always our top priority at the Department of Neurosurgery at Mount Sinai Health System. We understand that many people may feel worried about visiting any medical facility right now, but don’t let fear keep you from getting the care that is so vital to your health. It is important to get the health care you need when you need it.
Our message for you is simple but urgent: Please do not put your imaging, pain management, emerging symptoms, or neurosurgical care on hold. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have carefully and conservatively managed our patients with low-risk conditions, providing telemedicine appointments and scheduling surgeries only when necessary. To schedule an appointment, please call your provider directly, log into MyChart, or search for your provider using our Find a Doctor.
Our Safety Measures
We are performing medically necessary services and surgeries at all locations, which are safe spaces where we are not seeing COVID-19 patients. New rigorous safety protocols have been adopted at all sites so that you can feel confident about coming in.
How We’re Keeping You Safe During Surgery
-
We are performing pre-operative testing and clearance at a separate non-hospital, outpatient facility which does not treat COVID-19 patients.
-
Conservative management and monitoring for patients with low risk levels.
-
All patients must be tested for COVID-19. In most cases this will take place two days before the procedure, and in all cases no more than three.
-
We have taken additional safety precautions by implementing strict isolation practices to separate COVID-19 patients from others.
-
For scheduled and immediate surgery, we have special neurosurgery rooms, wings, operating rooms, and intensive care units reserved for our patients that are separate from where patients with COVID-19 are treated.
-
At your pre-operative appointment, personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided to you to wear to the hospital on your day of scheduled surgery.
-
Staff caring for neurosurgery patients are not involved in the care of COVID-19 patients. We are here for only you and all have appropriate protective equipment.
-
Please be aware that we are adhering to visitor restrictions in order to minimize the number of people in our facilities. We will take care to provide as much communication between you and your loved one. Please visit our website at mountsinai.org for the most up-to-date information.
What to Expect During Your Office Visit
-
Our staff will provide masks and gloves upon entering the hospital and our offices, plus any other protective equipment, as needed.
-
We’ve implemented safe distancing practices in all lobbies and waiting areas.
-
We’ve modified our schedules to appropriately space out appointments so there are very few other patients in our waiting areas and common spaces.
